Warhammer 40k is one of the hobbies I love to get into but don't know how or where to start. Maybe I should start with collecting miniatures. What if I get the core rule book first and start from there? Reading the lore of the game is also a valid start, as well as painting other miniatures so by the time I get to paint the actual Warhammer figures, I am no longer a novice.
Enter Warhammer 40k Imperium Magazine. The magazine is a weekly publication that kind of solves the problem of how to start the hobby for you. It gives you a path to go through that eases you into the rules, lore, collecting, assembling, and painting aspect of the game. Everything is introduced in bite size so you won't feel overwhelmed by everything 40k.
Issue #1
The first issue is priced at $6.95, the succeeding issues will be priced at $13.95. Premium subscribers will pay $16.95. It contains a magazine in loose leaf form, a plastic ruler, a set of 6 dice, 2 sprues, an a map, everything you need for your initial game of Warhammer 40k. Issue#1 came in pack with Issues#2, and #3. The next package will come in next month with issues #4-7.

The Sprues
The sprues included are for a Space Marine Lieutenant and a Necron Royal Warded. Don't worry if you have no clue to who these guys are (as i do). The magazine contains a short description of who they are and what they do in game or in lore. As to how to assemble, a page is dedicated to teach you step by step: how to cut, how to position, etc.

Necron Royal Warden Sprue
Assembling the Miniature I am no longer a beginner with model assembly so cutting the pieces and putting them together was a breeze. These models are push fit, you don't need a glue to assemble them. The problem with push fit models is sometimes you will not get a 100% fit. You will see gaps in between. What I suggest is cut the peg short and use glue to reinforce the assembly.
Here's a picture of the models assembled.

Is it a good buy? It definitely is. For $6.99 you get all of these and you get to try the hobby for yourself without a big investment. But be aware that this is just the initial price and is designed to lure you into the second, third, and hopefully to the 80th issues, which is $13.95 per issue. Even at that price point, you are still getting a deep discount compared to the retail value of the miniatures and paints you will be getting.
The subscription mode, premium vs standard, is another beast of a discussion and I would just refer you to the official website for an explanation. https://www.warhammer40000imperium.com/.
